Why I'm private pay

I don't bill insurance directly. Private pay means your care isn't shaped by insurance rules. We decide together how often to meet and for how long. If you don't seek reimbursement, nothing is shared with your insurance company, which matters to many teens and families.

Insurance

I'm out-of-network with all insurance plans. Many plans still reimburse part of the cost of out-of-network therapy.

How superbills work

  1. You pay for each session.

  2. I provide a superbill, a detailed receipt with the codes your insurance needs. [Monthly / on request]

  3. You submit it to your insurance company.

  4. If your plan covers out-of-network mental health care, they reimburse you directly.

A superbill includes a diagnosis code, so using it means your insurer receives that information. We can talk through whether that makes sense for you.

Check your coverage

Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met this year?

  • What percentage do you reimburse after the deductible?

  • Do I need pre-authorization?

  • How do I submit a superbill?

You can also use HSA or FSA funds to pay for sessions in most cases.

Payment and cancellations

  • How to pay: a credit, debit, HSA, or FSA card is kept securely on file through the client portal and charged after each session.

  • Cancellations: please cancel or reschedule at least [24/48] hours before your session.

  • Late cancellations and no-shows: charged [the full session fee / $amount]. Insurance does not reimburse these fees.

  • Emergencies happen. If something truly unexpected comes up, reach out and we'll talk about it.

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you don't have insurance or choose not to use it, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care.

  • You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, and you'll receive one in writing when you schedule.

  • The estimate covers the expected charges for your therapy services.

  • If you're billed at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Keep a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
